The East Baton Rouge Parish School System kicked off its 2011-2012 United Way Campaign last week with a Mardi Gras theme, “Throw the United Way Something, Mister.” Thanks to costumed revelers and donations from the Krewe of Juno & Jupiter and donations from the Zulu Krewe, as well as others, the event was a big success.
Now all employees should be getting their individual, blue United Way pledge forms this week from site coordinators. Our goal is to raise $65,000 district wide by November 10, so please take a moment to give – and give generously.
The United Way funds health and human services agencies in our community, including ones that directly affect students, like the Volunteers In Public Schools and Big Buddy programs. Indirectly, it funds the area food banks and service agencies that serve our students’ families that are in need year round.
THIS YEAR, the district is not taking cash donations because of bookkeeping procedure requirements – only checks or money orders made out to the Capital Area United Way or pledges from paychecks as indicated on the pledge forms. Some sites may accept cash ONLY if the coordinator has made arrangements with a supervisor to convert all cash donations into checks before sending it to Central Office. Please check with your principal or site coordinator individually.
In addition, if you choose not to make a donation or pledge, simply dispose of your blank blue card. There is no need to turn those cards in to the Central Office.
All blue pledge forms should be returned to the site coordinator, who then delivers them to Kelly Lopez in the Central Office’s Business Division. Help us fight poverty, combat growing needs and make an investment in your community. Give to the United Way!
