VIPS Hits The Streets To Sign Up School Volunteers - July 23, 2009

Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) leaders hit the road – literally – recently to recruit volunteers to help tutor local children and assist school staff. Elise Roche (right) was one of several volunteers who joined staffers in taking their message to the streets: It takes the entire community to help educate our children. While Judy Bethly (at top), VIPS executive director, enticed her with a cup of coffee, Kari Viator (left) signed up to become a school volunteer.

Volunteers In Public Schools’ runs the EveryBody Reads© program, which recruits, trains and matches volunteers to work one on one at least twice monthly with a first, second or third grader identified as being a little behind in reading. Businesses can get involved in public schools by contacting VIPS at (225) 226-4704.
