| Asian-Style Tops Help Students Collect Items for Food Bank in WHAM Bey Blade Tournament

A small, Asian-style toy top helped students at Westdale Heights Academic Magnet (WHAM) School collect three barrels of non-perishable food for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. Students held a Bey Blade Tournament of toy tops Saturday, November 12, at the school, and contestants were required to submit three canned good each. Spectators brought at least one can of food each to attend. In addition, the Parent Teacher Association sold pizza and drinks, and those proceeds also went to the Food Bank.
At this first-ever school tournament, teachers encouraged the entrance of teams of three students or neighborhood friends each. Organizer and teacher Beth Cox said, "Our event was very successful. Besides the three barrels of food, we made a $208 donation to the Food Bank. The kids had so much fun! It was very exciting!"
Division 1 winners included (pictured, left to right): Nathan Woo, Christian Deslatte and Chandler Deslatte. Division 2 was won by: Wesley Ennis, Malik Abraham and Kaleb Colomb. Student Jabril Johnson came up with the idea to hold the tournament and use it as a fundraiser.
