Eighteen students from Westdale Heights Academic Magnet School cleaned tables and chairs, made snacks and served drinks to visitors during a volunteer stint Saturday, September 17, at the St. Vincent De Paul Dining Room. They made and bagged snacks for the Bags of Hope Program, totaling more than 1,000 snack bags. In addition, students made 419 sandwiches. In addition, they served drinks to more than 200 visitors and cleaned 20 tables and 120 chairs. Some of the students involved included (left to right): Kayci Wright, Aeriana Gordon, Doretha Dixon, Jordyn Fontenot, Sandra Botello, Jasmine Butler, Priya Gilman, and Sam Kane. The students involved in the project are members of K-Kids, which is a fifth-grade level of the Baton Rouge Kiwanis Club. “It was a real eye-opening experience for the kids to see people in such need -- some of whom were their own age,” said Music teacher Keith James, who also participated in the event.
