EBR BEGINS THE 2011-2012 SCHOOL YEAR  8-10-2011

Students and parents were laden with new, colorful backpacks and plastic bags full of school supplies Wednesday morning, August 10, in school hallways across the East Baton Rouge Parish School System.  The first day of the district’s 2011-2012 school year went relatively smoothly, and some 43,420 students were decked out in their uniforms and shiny shoes as they attended classes.  Registered Student Enrollment increased substantially over this time last year – by more than 800 students.  See the images



WBRZ, RAISING CANE'S AND OFFICE DEPOT HELP COLLECT $42,000-PLUS IN SUPPLIES FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS IN NEED; 6 BUSES FILLED

Community members came out in droves at Office Depot on College Drive July 20, helping volunteers fill six school buses with more than $42,700 in school supplies for students in need.  Volunteers In Public Schools (VIPS) led the charge during the fourth annual WBRZ Stuff the Bus with School Supplies event, which was also sponsored by Raising Cane’s, Office Depot and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.  See the images


TOP DISTRICT EDUCATORS APPLAUDED AT TEACHERS OF THE YEAR AWARDS RECEPTION

On Wednesday afternoon, April 20, the cream of this crop rose to the top when the School System’s three Teachers of the Year were announced at an awards reception.  The 2012 district Teachers of the Year are:  Candice Hartley of Woodlawn Elementary School, Erica Badeaux of Sherwood Middle Academic Magnet School  and Brandon Hebert of the East Baton Rouge Laboratory Academy.  See the images



READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY
3-2-2011

"You're never too old, too wacky, too wild,
to pick up a book and read to a child."

Business professionals, politicians, deputies, firefighters, college coaches, football players, students and more flooded elementary schools throughout the East Baton Rouge Parish School System to read to students as part of Read Across America Day.
